3 Things to Do Before Using Your Card Abroad

Five minutes before you leave saves money and hassle for the whole trip.

① Check your card's foreign transaction fee

Many cards charge 1%–3%; plenty of travel cards are 0%. Bring a no-fee card.

② Have a UnionPay card + tell your bank you're traveling

UnionPay usually waives the CNY conversion fee; also notify your issuer so travel spend isn't blocked by fraud controls.

③ Know the mid-market rate

Look up the destination currency's mid-market rate (search "X to Y"). Compare it while paying to instantly catch DCC markups.
